ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent Donates 1,000 Unites to the Red Cross for Flood Victims
Bedford, MA (September 2007) -- ThermaCELL, manufacturer of the only patented, pocket-sized, portable, area mosquito repellent devices, has donated 1,000 mosquito-repelling ThermaCELL Mini Lanterns to the Red Cross for distribution to flood victims in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
All ThermaCELL appliances are 98% effective, creating a 15ft x 15ft “Bug-Free-Zone” within minutes. Each unit is cordless and portable, weighing less than a pound. ThermaCELL works by dispersing the insecticide allethrin, which is a synthetic analog of an insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers.
According to the Red Cross, ThermaCELL’s donated products will be distributed to flood victims in Minnesota and Wisconsin to create mosquito-free clean-up zones. The floods in this region have led to an explosion in the population of mosquitoes and thus the likelihood of mosquito borne illnesses has increased. In an effort to keep the flood victims, clean-up crews and kitchen help healthy, the Red Cross is distributing portable ThermaCELL Mini Lanterns. “We want to thank ThermaCELL for their generous donation. It's the generosity of Red Cross partners like ThermaCELL that makes a positive impact on those affected by the disaster,” said Sandy Zuiderhoek, in-kind donation manager of the Red Cross.
ThermaCELL is honored to work with the Red Cross to protect the flood victims from mosquito-borne illnesses. “Amid such personal devastation, these unfortunate flood victims now have to be aware of the potential danger that mosquitoes pose with cases of West Nile Virus and Equine Encephalitis reaching record highs this year,” said Bill Schawbel, President of Schawbel Corporation. “We are honored to be called upon by one of our retailers, Gander Mountain, to help make a difference.”
ThermaCELL area repellents alleviate the need for messy sprays and lotions that need to be topically applied in order to be effective. The ThermaCELL line of products includes hand-held devices that are prized by outdoor enthusiasts in need of relief from biting insects; a rustic tabletop camping lantern that keeps uninvited bugs from invading campsites.
ThermaCELL, a division of The Schawbel Corporation of Bedford, Massachusetts, utilizes patented technology to create cordless, portable appliances powered by replaceable butane cartridges.
