New Lantern Serves as Both a Light and 98% Effective Mosquito Repellent

Bedford, MA (August 2007) -- ThermaCELL of the only portable, butane-powered, area mosquito repellent devices, has introduced a patio lantern utilizing the same highly effective mosquito repellent as other ThermaCELL products. The Lantern provides not only unmatched protection from biting insects, but ambient lighting for outdoor entertaining on the patio or at the campsite. The new Lantern can be used as a light, a mosquito repellent, or for both purposes simultaneously. No more swatting, no more lotions or sprays, and no need to buy expensive bug tents or suits because the ThermaCELL Lantern is up to 98% effective at warding off mosquitoes, black flies, and no-see-ums.

The European inspired lantern is aesthetically pleasing with a wrought iron look for classic appeal. Designed with a frosted globe, the lantern offers two illumination settings. The butane cartridge which powers the mosquito repellent provides 12 hours of power and is located on the interior for aesthetics and ease-of-use. The light switch is located on the base of the lantern and is powered by 2 AA batteries.

The single butane cartridge heats a mat releasing allethrin, an insect repellent that is a synthetic copy of a natural insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers that creates a 15 ft x 15 ft comfort zone. Each mat contains enough repellent for four hours of protection. The ThermaCELL Lantern is silent and odor free, and does not have an exposed flame or messy wax.
